I think Adam and Agnes felt guilty about ignoring their father’s wishes, as they arranged a marriage between their children Jesse and Renata. That also fell through, and the next generation was no better — Catherine married Timothy, and her second cousin David married my mother. Then the two couples cut contact for many years, and made no plans for their children. Of course that’s the generation when Charles Hawthorn got his way: I married Juniper, and we had Jason earlier this year.
