I started living in Montreal on April Fools in 1999. For three months I stayed away from the Old Port of Montreal, the place where I last saw her. On the morning after Canada Day, I lifted my prohibition and went to see the sunrise. At the barricade by Alexandra Basin, the love of my dreams looked back and asked, Do you love the sunrise?

There is nothing to love about the sunrise, I said.

For two minutes I watched her look out at the horizon, showing the same silhouette from the August night in 1992. Turning back with a smile, she asked: Like what you see?

I said, Seven years ago we shared a dance.
