Disgraced

To Dr. Jameson (or whoever else comes across this letter first):

By the time you read this, I will already be long gone, in a place far beyond your reach. But do not worry! I am still alive and well, and will be enjoying my newfound solitude in a quiet European town where I can think in peace and live simply; though Death is not unwelcome, before his arrival there is still much more I want to learn and do (I bought a bicycle from a second-hand store! Unfortunately, bruises and cuts do not heal so fast at my age). Forgive me for the alarm I may have caused with that opening line, but I hope that I now have your undivided attention. (If you are not Dr. Jameson, please pass this onto him. You have the privilege of seeing his reaction to my cruel joke.)
