A month before I moved to Montreal, I used up a phone card to ring Ancra. How strange it was to hear stories about his daughter Collis. Time goes by. I relayed news from the pianist and the engineer, asked about his stalled literary pursuits, wished him luck with his doctorate at Columbia, and sent regards to his wife. Then, we reminisced about our trip. He noted that area code 917, the only three digits I remember of his New York City number, was created in 1992. Leave it up to a mind like his to find significance in the insignificant, a mind like mine to imitate my heroes.
