Humorous
Of course, the fireworks were not for me.
I was prepared to skip the celebration
honoring Canada’s Confederation,
and all for the sake of a silly vow I made
three months before, when spring was young and fresh.
When I got off the train at Central Station —
the inauspicious day of April Fools,
but also the day that Nunavut was formed
from the eastern part of the Northwest Territories,
less history and more a trivial fact —
my clandestine return to Montreal
began with little pomp or circumstance.
