Alacrity is an example of a child who is given an overly idealistic upbringing. Her parents are also big influences on Jason, but he receives the teachings in a more moderate way.

Franklin, a political idealist, tells Alacrity to only fight if she is willing to kill. She gets into a schoolyard fight with someone who insults Jason. In the school office, Franklin chastises his daughter in front of the principal and the person she fought with.

"Remember what I always tell you?"

"Yes, Dad."

"What do I tell you?"

"Don't fight if I'm not willing to kill."

"That's right. Do you have something to say?"

"Sorry, Dad."

"Don't apologize to me, honey. Apologize to her."

"Alright. (turns) I'm sorry I wasn't trying to kill you. Next time, I won't make that mistake."
