The surname of Cousteau is somewhat tricky.
I’ve never known a person named Cousteau.
At least, not till I dreamed about a girl
named Ithaca Viktoriya Cousteau.
The name is French, an obvious fact of course.
Cousteaus ("Cousteaux?") are all around the world,
wherever France’s flag has ever flown.
Yet what about this name is so compelling?
I have three sources for this name in mind
that might illuminate its origins:
the first, a cross-eyed adult Magic player
who I knew well when I was still a teen,
who scammed me many times while trading cards.
