Thrown

Madir says to the dying soldier, ’My dream is to be a pilot, to fly above the clouds, looking down at the world below.”

The soldier, coughing up blood, looks up at Madir. “A pilot, huh?”

Madir places a hand on the soldier’s shoulder. “God loves you, friend.”

As the soldier takes his last breath, Madir closes his eyes and says a silent prayer for his fallen enemy. Linro reaches a hand to her brother, but has no words. Seeing the sister’s reticence, Tisha speaks to the hero of the hour. “You have a kind heart,” she says.

Madir has a determined expression on his face. “Let us fight not with weapons, but with compassion. Let us create a world where all may live in God and follow his way.”

“And that’s the world government,” I said.  And they live to fight another day.
