I still saw Tara stay behind after math class. She remained the quiet and attentive girl from before, as if the night of the football game was one long wet dream. After she got out of cheerleading, her parents started picking her up right after school. For the rest of the year, we never talked outside of our regular classes. Though we would wave to each other and make chit-chat before class started, our talk was limited to timetables, due dates, and course selection. On the last day of school in June, while signing each other’s yearbooks; I wrote to her: Never stop smiling! Your #1 fan, Gale Jones.
