Mortified

It has been three years since that email, and six years since I first heard his story. During that time, I have spent much time interviewing Gale Jones, and on speaking with his friends both in Waterloo (where I live and where he was born) and in Montreal (where he has lived ever since the age of twenty-four). To be honest, trying to write everything down has been difficult, and at times it felt like I was trying to pierce through a riddle. I had good reason for feeling this way, because that is exactly what it was; the older gentleman, in assigning me the thankless task of going through his archive of writings and dedicating my spare time to writing about his life, was in fact trying to help me. Specifically, he wanted to save my eternal soul.

And I am humbled to say that it worked.
