Useless

At the John Young monument, Selene presents an interesting Chinese fact: the Yangtze River 扬子江 sounds like “Son of the Ocean”, “Son of the Sun”, or “Young Son” (the last can also be “Son of Flight” or “Son of the Wind”). She muses how everyone is a son of the ocean. The Earth’s surface is 70% water and so is the human body. Seven parts water, three parts dust. “What kind of dust, do you reckon?” “Stardust. But moondust might be more appropriate for me, don’t you think?”

Selene asks Gale what “Jones” means, and he replies that it means “son of John”.

Will you be carried away by wind or water, Gale Jones?

Songs from the south, odes from the past.
